Our pregnant patients are looked after by the Community Midwives. They hold regular clinics at the Health Centre. They are employed by the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust and based in Bury St Edmunds.
As soon as possible after you discover you are pregnant please book a routine appointment with a doctor at the Health Centre. They will ensure that there is nothing that would impact on the health of your pregnancy, such as medications you are taking, or health conditions that may require referral to a Consultant Obstetrician. Your doctor will then ask you to book online to start your antenatal care with the midwives. During the Winter months you will also be offered an influenza vaccine.
We encourage all pregnant woman to take Folic Acid and Vitamin D. Ideally this is started before you are are pregnant, but otherwise as soon as they you aware. This has been shown to reduce the risk of birth defects in babies. These tablets are available from a pharmacy.
